About Zip World Bounce Below
Bounce Below opened at Llechwedd Slate Caverns in 2014, using a natural slate cavern that had been quarried over the previous century and left empty when extraction moved elsewhere. The cavern — large enough to fit a cathedral — was fitted with three interconnected levels of giant nets, trampolines and slides, illuminated by coloured light rigs that play off the raw grey-purple slate walls. The result is one of the most unusual adventure environments anywhere in Britain.
Participants descend underground by a short mine railway and then have 1 hour to bounce, slide, climb and explore the cavern network. The three levels are connected by slides and rope bridges as well as the trampolines themselves. The cavern maintains a constant underground temperature of around 10°C regardless of conditions at the surface — cool in summer, relatively warm in winter.
The Llechwedd site places Bounce Below within easy reach of the Ffestiniog Railway — one of the great narrow-gauge railways of the world, which terminates at Blaenau Ffestiniog a 10-minute walk from the caverns. Arriving by steam train from Porthmadog and spending the afternoon underground is one of the more memorable combinations of experiences in North Wales.

Bounce Below is a network of giant trampolines and slides suspended in a vast natural slate cavern at Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Blaenau Ffestiniog. Participants descend underground by mine railway and then bounce, slide and climb across three interconnected levels of nets illuminated by coloured lights, with the raw slate walls of the cavern rising around them. It is one of the most surreal adventure experiences in the UK.
Yes — Bounce Below is excellent for families with children aged 7 and over. The minimum age is 7 (children must be at least 1m tall and capable of participating safely). The combination of the underground setting, the trampolines and the illuminated slate environment is very exciting for children. Adults find it equally engaging — the cavern scale makes even straightforward bouncing feel dramatic. Sessions last 1 hour.
Bounce Below is at Llechwedd Slate Caverns, on the edge of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Use postcode LL41 3NB. It is approximately 10 minutes' walk from Blaenau Ffestiniog station — served by both the Ffestiniog Railway from Porthmadog and the Conwy Valley Line from Llandudno Junction. This makes Bounce Below one of the few adventure attractions in North Wales directly accessible by heritage steam train.
Llechwedd Slate Caverns offers both the Bounce Below experience and a separate Deep Mine underground tour (a different cavern reached by the steepest railway in Britain). These are operated by different companies at the same site — Bounce Below by Zip World, the underground tours by Llechwedd Ltd — and can be booked separately for a full day underground. The Victorian Slate Village above ground is free to walk through.
Yes — advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly at weekends and in school holidays. Sessions are timed and capacity is limited by the size of the cavern. Book at zipworld.co.uk. Arriving without a booking risks disappointment, especially in summer.
Comfortable clothing that you can move freely in — the activity involves bouncing, sliding and crawling across nets. Closed-toe shoes must be worn (no sandals or flip-flops). The underground temperature is a constant cool regardless of surface weather — a light layer is advisable even in summer. Grippy socks are provided or can be purchased. All jewellery should be removed.
