About Greenwood Forest Park
Greenwood Forest Park occupies a wooded site near Y Felinheli on the southern shore of the Menai Strait, with views across the water to Anglesey and south to Snowdonia's mountain skyline. The park was established in 1995 with a commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly design that distinguishes it from conventional theme parks — the attractions are built from natural materials where possible, the energy comes from solar and other renewable sources, and the woodland setting is preserved rather than cleared.
The Great Green Run is the signature attraction — a 320-metre grass toboggan that sweeps down a hillside through the woodland. The ride is not powered by electricity or motors: riders start at the top and gravity does the rest, with a simple braking mechanism. The Solar Splash waterplay area operates in summer with water features powered by solar panels. The people-powered roller coaster — the first of its type in Wales — requires riders to pump and pedal to generate momentum.
For families with children aged 3–12, Greenwood offers a full day's activity. The woodland setting, the sustainable ethos and the distinctiveness of the attractions give it a character that sets it apart from generic theme parks. It is not trying to compete with Alton Towers — it is doing something quite different, and doing it well in a spectacular North Wales setting.

Frequently asked questions
Greenwood Forest Park is an eco-themed family adventure park near Y Felinheli, between Bangor and Caernarfon. Unlike conventional theme parks, Greenwood has a sustainability focus — its attractions emphasise natural and sustainable design, and the park is set within mature woodland with Snowdonia views from many parts of the site. It has been operating since 1995 and is popular with families looking for something different from conventional theme park experiences.
The Great Green Run is Greenwood's signature attraction — a 320-metre grass toboggan run that is among the most exciting in North Wales for children (and adults). The Solar Splash waterplay area operates in summer. The Bamboo Maze is a hedge puzzle for families. There are forest walks, nature trails, a barefoot walk and various smaller play and adventure areas. The park also has Wales's first people-powered roller coaster — propelled by human power rather than motors.
Greenwood is primarily designed for younger children — the rides and activities tend to suit ages 3–12 best. Teenagers may find the pace slower than conventional theme parks, though the Great Green Run appeals to a wide age range. For a mixed-age family group, Greenwood works well alongside a nearby mountain or adventure activity for older children and adults. The park is also genuinely pleasant for adults who appreciate the woodland setting and sustainable design.
Greenwood Forest Park is approximately 5 miles from Caernarfon Castle on the B4547 road. Many families combine the two in a single day — Greenwood in the morning (opening at 10am) and Caernarfon Castle in the afternoon. Both are accessible from the A487 Caernarfon to Bangor road.
Greenwood Forest Park operates seasonally, generally from Easter (April) through October. It may also open for special events in winter. The main summer season (July–August) is the busiest period.
